McDonald, the immediate past chair of The Arc of the South Shore’s Board of Directors, and Foraste, the immediate past chair of The Northeast Arc, not only have their workplace in common, but also their involvement in the same nonprofit organization — albeit in different locations.

The Arc of the South Shore, a nonprofit providing information, referrals, and community programs for individuals with disabilities, has learned it has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Yawkey Foundation. The funding will allow The Arc to install ceiling Hoyer lifts in two of its residential group homes, thereby improving residents’ safety, independence, and dignity. Thomas is Vice President, Recruiter in Talent Acquisition for Eastern Bank, enlisting individual talent for corporate positions and special projects for Diversity Hiring within the company. She currently serves as one of the co-chairs of the Black Professionals Alliance at Eastern Bank and is a member of the Disability Alliance.

The Arc of the South Shore has announced Stephen Centerrino, Ed.D. of Braintree as a member of its Board of Directors. Centerrino is the founding principal of Lovell Academy in Rockland, a private, residential boarding school serving students from grade eight through post-graduate. A 30-year educator, he is the former assistant principal at Avon Middle High School and previously was the special education team chair/school psychologist at Hingham High School.

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? In January we cut the ribbon on the first home of our smart home initiative. The $1 million renovation project updated and modernized the five-bedroom dwelling by incorporating smart home technology to remotely automate many everyday tasks via internet connection.

Motorcycle enthusiasts will gather in Lakeville this weekend to pay tribute to former Weymouth resident Kellianne Burke, a 33-year-old woman with Down Syndrome who died last fall. The ride, the first in what organizers say they hope will be an annual event, will benefit the nonprofit Arc of the South Shore.
